When I first started my career, harvest came after Labor Day unless you were making sparkling wine. Now, it's rare that we don't start harvesting in late August for still wine. As the 2023 season progressed it became clear that we would not be picking until well into September. We got Labor Day off! Late harvests often lead to "cooler" tasting wines lower alcohols, less ripe flavors. But the Gamay was the opposite. It is
