An elite volunteer force from the American Airborne divisions, the Pathfinders had the perilous task of jumping into parachute landing zones up to 30 minutes ahead of the main force. Their job was to set up specialist equipment to guide the incoming aircraft to the target. After the main jump, the Pathfinders would link up with the rest of their unit and continue fighting as regular infantry. Equipped with specialized gear and
