From the 15th century onward cylindrical drug jars like this were used throughout Europe & Islamic countries in North Africa & the Near East, they were used for medicines and herbal remedies. This late 1600s pair of Spanish albarelli are of cylindrical waisted form and having a wide slightly flared mouth, each jar with a raised circular
