There are a couple of round holes carved through the sides that suggest perhaps it was once part of something larger

One of them is missing a screw to lock it in place but sliding mechanism is tight and it will hold wherever one sets it without the screw

The base measures 5 3/4" across

It appears the back of the frame was once papered over (and the remains of that paper look late 19th c

"Tent Hall Free Breakfasts" on the other, "and" on both short sides, and a paper label on the underside connecting it to the Glasgow United Evangelistic Association, which operated in Glasgow, Scotland from the late 19th c. until the early 1970s. I'd guess this dates to the 1930s 40s or so and clearly was meant
