I have done some research and believe it dates to the very late 19th or very early 20th century

and drilling holes in the lid the most perfectly direct way of making the board

I think it dates from the 1960s or so

I guess I would call them

with the Cuban flags along with American flags suggesting Spanish American War era

"The Guide to Happines" Christmas 1848 Punch Paper Embroidery Bookmark vintage w German pottery I have done some researchQuite an early punch paper embroidery, dated Dec. 25, 1848, and I think a pretty great one, casting the bible as "the guide to happiness" minus one "s". Pretty wreath of greens encircling the book, and lovely silk ribbon for the bookmark too. All in remarkably good condition. Embroidery itself: 3 5 8" x 2". Overall: 13 1 2" x 2 3 8". Very very good condition.
