The pair of red fighting roosters at left (Kelso roosters I believe) appear to me to as rivals--though there seems a certain kinship between them too as they observe what I presume is the recent death of the third red rooster--lying

Whether made in advance of, or after, an engraving for a zoological volume I am not certain (though I'd guess the former) whatever the case, quite spectacular, and with the execution amplifying a sense of wonder at creatures
