Betel Leaf, Paan (Large Leaf Form) Ground Cover Planted on the sunny side'Paan' or 'Betel Leaf' (Piper betle) is the leaf of a vine belonging to the Piperaceae family which includes pepper and kava. The leaves are edible and mildly bitter and aromatic. In India and some other Asian countries it is common to eat 'Masala Paan' (sliced betel nut, lime powder and other spices rolled up in betel leaves) as a very mild stimulant, especially taken after food as a digestive. It also has countless other uses from breath freshener
