The happy surprise of my week was to find this terrier beaming up at me from an unpicked box of tintypes

O'Driscoll scattered the cards

but now could be used to house all sorts of little things

I'm terrible identifying species but with its long snout I have to think a hound

I might guess the former, and assume the person taking the picture was standing on shore, but there is a certain feeling of gravitas to the photo that makes it feel as if a document of a consequential moment.
