The background consists of a scene in the Surrey Zoological Gardens and features the lake. Behind the lake is a modelled panorama. The panorama is Danson's new 'Stupendous Panoramic Model', the principal attraction of the Gardens in 1843. It shows the conservatory with a large dome which contained wild animals.
