it reminds me a lot of one of my favorite objects ever: an early Arikara Native American hide shield held in the collection of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City

Carved 20 Inch Whimsy Chain with Hook and Ball in Cage royal Winton grimwades My photos of these areThis is one of a a number of old pine carved whimsies I purchased together and believe were all made by one American carver, first half of the 20th century I think. Squarish links on this one with a handy hook for hanging on one end with a two ball cage at the other dangling at the end. All carved from one piece of wood with no notable chips, cracks or splits. There are some flea bites though on one post of the cage. 20 5 8" long x 1 3 16" wide; links
