I believe this/these drawings were made as embroidery patterns--and I can very much imagine them executed in very fine silk thread

both with a bit of a sheen to the fabric

This one I believe is Chinese, and other similar examples I have found out there indicate specifically from Hong Kong, later 19th century, while it was under British rule.
